Ubuntu / linux convert

I have fully switched to Ubuntu as my primary OS. Hardy Heron (beta) at the moment. As a Network Admin. for a Windows Active directory environment it was not easy at first. You have to make a few concessions but it's worth it. It is a pretty easy transition but I have to admit were a few bumps along the way. I have gotten more use and fun out of Ubuntu then other Operating systems. The reasons I enjoy Ubuntu.

I. Ease of Installation/Use
2. Hardware support / Driver support
3. Community support (its insane there are so many resources)
4. Quality Releases & Regular Release Cycles

Things the can ease the switch.

Vmware: I use this on rare occasion now Only to use some Job required tools (read: paid for before the switch) or to test windows only apps and and logon scripts required for my users.

Remote Desktop \ Terminal server client: These are good for those rare instances when i absolutely have to have a box running windows.

Multi-boot Laptop is a go.

Finished my triple (technically quadruple) boot system today....

1. Dell Diagnostic Partition
2. Windows Vista Ultimate
3. Backtrack2
4. Ubuntu 7.04

This actually went way better than i thought it would.

What was used:

Dell Precision M90

Gparted Live CD - create\modify partitions

Backtrack2 Live Cd - Fun Linux distro + lots of toys

Ubuntu 7.04 Live Cd - Very user friendly Linux distro

Windows Vista Ultimate (retail Cd) - necessary evil...

First off the machine came with two partitons. Dell Diag.\Fat16 and Windows\NTFS.

I resized the Windows partition and created 2 ext3 partitions out of the empty space left behind. Installed backtrack2 first then Ubuntu and then Vista then I booted back to Ubuntu and restored grub to the MBR... I then added a couple of lines to the grub menu.lst and everything was ready to go.

New App posted to my site...

I posted my "Panic!" app to my site for anyone to enjoy. It's small little app that will minimize all windows and lock the desktop. works in windows(XP,and Vista) haven't tested it on others yet. It does require .NET 2.0 or higher. If you test it on another windows OS let me know how it goes. You can e-mail me at r3700l3r@gmail.com
